I know someone posted a link to one of the 'Darwin Awards' given to people that have died in ridiculous circumstances at the start of this thread, but I own one of those books, and here are my 3 favourites. (All are true, I'll find the book and scan in the page if needs be!)

1. One man (in America I think?) stole a vintage WW2 pistol from an old mans house, tried to hold up the local cash and carry. When the cashier refused to hand over the money, CCTV images record the criminal pulling the trigger. Noting immediately happened, so the criminal is seen to turn the gun to his face to look down the barrel. Because the vintage pistol contained vintage ammo, there was a delay in ignition. Long story short, he shot himself in the head!

2. There was a court appearance with a man charged with possession of a live hand grenade which had a 5-metre kill radius. The defendant avidly protested it was fake. Apparently, as the case drew on, the Judge got bored and pulled the pin out of the grenade.

3. And a final quick one- A bloke was pruning a tree, and cut off the branch that he was sitting on - fell to his death.

My stepdad was killed a few weeks ago when Floella Benjamin broke into the house and injected him with air, all the while grinning inanely with her head tilted to one side.

Unfortunately we haven't been able to find any real evidence. Turns out she's really cagey, like the cast of Hustle. I witnessed it myself but it's my word against hers, and she's an MP so apparently she's "more reliable" or something so they're keeping it on the down low.

It is a very convoluted story, but the gist of it is a pizza delivery man had a bomb collar attached to his neck, and obviously blows up. I remember the more fear-mongering news outlets here in America were speculating that Al Qaeda was involved in it, which I found hilarious. Bin Laden destroys two national landmarks and damages the Pentagon, so it's obvious that his next target is a pizza delivery man from some shitty restaurant in the middle of nowhere.

Hey Ed, this death is pretty amazing, my dad once saw a man standing on the roof of a building and when the man realized someone was watching.

he jumped off the roof and was hit by a double decker bus in mid-air and my dad had to hold his neck in place until the ambulance arrived LOL my dad was later told by the man's parents that he was heavily in debt.

so that's good that he killed himself over something that is ultimately frivolous and we can laugh about it isn't it?

Okay, so here is the thing with my great great grandfather and the mole(s). His name was Jimmy McKenzie and he earned his living by being a mole catcher in the highlands of Scotland which is the 19th century equivalent of a Rentokil person. But one that just does moles.
Anyway, how much of living is called into question the nature of his demise.
Apparently, one day he encountered a particulary vicious "gang" of moles, which is the collective term for a gathering of delinquent moles.
Although he finished the job he sustained severe mole bites to his lower regions ie legs. This being the nineteenth century hygiene and antiseptics had not been invented yet, his wounds festered, became gangrous and his legs had to be lopped off. He didn't last much longer after this as the highlands are quite a bit hilly. Nearly all of this is kind of true. Really.
But a radioactive werewolf was loads better. Thanks.

My sisters auntie got run over by a runaway truck which rolled down a hill once because it was in the united states of the USA and a bear let off the handbrake and she was crossing the road. Afterwards the grisly bear went and stole her lunch and some people think it did on purpose because he was a bit hungry. Anyway they had to go on a hunting thing and go and get the bear because it had been naughty and the amazing thing is that the bear was backed to the edge of a cliff and because the men hunting had guns it got all scared and jumped off committing suicide. There is a plaque at the top of the cliff for the bear but not one on the road for my sisters auntie. No justice!

My grandad fought in the second world war, saw action in both Italy and Africa, and survived.

Upon his return he was taking a shit in the toilet and strained so hard one day that he burst a blood vessel to his brain and died.

Let that be a warning to you. I have memories of when I was a little Alben, going to the toilet and hearing my dad's voice in the distance, calling "Don't strain!..."

P.S. Ed's laugh sounds like a ladyguff.

My Grandad won a Trip to Italy on the old channel 4 program Eurotrash. He won it by mistake as he had never watched it in his life and often wondered what the fuss was all about.
He met Lolo Ferrari and had a massive heart attack and died.

Several members of my family maintain that a great uncle on my dad's side was eaten by pigs after falling into a pen during feeding time. I'm not sure how true it is, but it seems like a particularly bizarre rumour to propagate.

A distant relative of mine killed his wife with a hammer after an argument over some lino. He dressed her up, put her in the driver seat of her car and pushed the car down a hill. He nearly got away with it but he forgot about the blood stained towels he left in the washing machine. Not that amazing really but it did happen even though it sounds like an episode of Columbo.

My Great Aunt's Grand Father was genuinely a murderer and - honest to god - strapped a lady down on a train track and waited for the train to come and run over her head. The only problem was, during the struggle to tie her up, she kicked the change direction lever thingy and as my Aunt's Grand Father stood back to watch her perish, he stepped onto the track that the train had now been directed to. And was crushed into that grill bit. Prick.

Turns out no one found her tied down until it was too late and a Coyote had sat on her face and suffocated her to death.

That's amazing that!
